Hello and Thank you for reaching out.
The question you have asked pertains to making a specific report or printout as you envision it. Almost everybody who asks such questions believes that they are asking for a "plain" and "simple" report, and nothing too complicated.
Safelog has more reports and more report options than any other eLogbook out there. The sheer number of options can be overwhelming. However, each report and each option that we have developed over the years is the result of some pilot's vision of a "plain" and "simple" report with their vision of a basic minimal report for their career or regulatory needs.
There are as many visions of what makes for a "simple" report as there are pilots. The best way for you to find a report that works for you is for you to log in to SafelogWeb.com using a PC or Mac web browser and to experiment with the various reports available. This helpdesk will be happy to answer specific questions about reports as best as we can, but with so many possible views of how reports should be, experience has shown that the absolute best thing for you to do is to experiment a bit.
The notes below may help.
- We suggest doing this by logging in to SafelogWeb.com from a PC or Mac since this allows you access to the most reports while also giving you a 'large screen' experience that is best for playing with options, generating previews, and so forth. You can also do much of this on a small screen and/or mobile device, but as as practical matter it's often harder.
- Click on "Printing and Reports" in SafelogWeb.com to access the report functions.
- Have you tried the "Safelog logbook view" report? This report looks very much like your logbook in Safelog. Additionally, at SafelogWeb.com, you can select exactly which fields you want to turn on. Look at the "Select Fields to Display" list of checkboxes there where you can select what fields you want including a large number of very useful "derivative" fields. This "Safelog logbook view" report is very powerful and flexible and we've found that most people who play with this can get something that works for them. Please note that this report uses the field order that you have defaulted in Safelog - you can change this to a limited extent by going to Setup .. Show/Hide/Reorder Logbook fields.
- There is a large number of other reports there which mimic or near-mimic common printed logbook styles. Please have a look. Often, those printouts have configurable/optional fields there. The availability and number of those fields varies by report. If you start with a logbook style similar to what you are after, you can often get exactly what you are after by playing with those optional fields. The 'builder' there is color coded to help you design this exactly as you'd like.
- For something not in a 'logbook' style, check out the 'Career Summary Reports.' These can get you totals for the fields you want, organized by date range, aircraft, etc. Have a look. Again, the 'select fields to display' option there is useful and can generate a relatively compact, clean report for only what you want.
- The "Totals/Graphs" can produce a number of grids of useful data. These reports even let you do things like 'total per page' to let you reconcile paper logbooks with Safelog. Don't miss the 'settings' icon (tools) on those reports to get more fine grained control.
- Don't be shy to generate some test reports. Ideally, do this with a small set of data (filter by date, for example) to make the generation faster while you experiment.
- There is a filter feature on the report screen to help you zero in on only the data you want.
Hopefully this will get you started. Even though this advice is quite generic, our metrics have shown that most people who read this find something like what they are after within a few minutes of reading this. If you don't, feel free to write back to us, giving us more specifics of what you are after, bearing in mind that most pilots describe what they are after as "simple" or "basic" but with wildly different ideas. Please note that due to liability and regulatory reasons, we cannot make anything that sounds like a legal, career, or regulatory recommendation ("Which report will [regulator agency] accept for ...?" "Which report will help my chances at [Airline]?", etc.) Thank you for your understanding.
