Who should consider the FOI-only edition?
An instrument instructor plan
Instrument Flight Instructor and Instrument Ground Instructor preparation is in the IFR test bank. If your chosen certification path also requires FOI, you may need separate FOI preparation.
If you also plan to take a Flight Instructor Airplane, BGI, AGI, or other test in the CFI bank, the combined Flight/Ground Instructor + FOI edition may better fit your longer-term plans.

FOI requirements and exemptions.
Most initial Flight and Ground Instructor applicants need to demonstrate the required knowledge of teaching fundamentals. The rules provide specific exemptions from the FOI knowledge test; a degree in education alone is not the stated exemption.
Check the exemption that applies to you.
The relevant rules address existing FAA Flight or Ground Instructor certificates, a qualifying teacher certificate authorizing teaching at the seventh-grade level or higher, and employment teaching at an accredited college or university. The Flight Instructor rule specifies a current qualifying teacher certificate.

Even when a written-test exemption applies, understanding teaching and learning remains useful in instructor training and in your work with students. Confirm your certification requirements with your instructor or FAA office.

I studied for just a couple hours a day just under a week and was able to ace my FOI test in 10 min with 100%. Very good descriptions and explainations of answers and why the FAA wants each specific answer. Much better android app than the competition since you can save, and have question stacks. I even understand some of the material better. Thanks a lot Dauntless! Next up is the FIA and AGI, I will let you know the outcome for those as well.
I took the test after working with your software and the K*** Schools CFI/FOI course. Your course was the most economical to use for the practice tests versus K*** Schools. I studied at a slow pace for 3 months then accelerated the practice and review one month prior to the written. Your course was great for getting familiar with the computerized testing scheme that CATS employs. I scored 99% on my FI/A and 100% on my FOI written tests. I believe I spent about and hour and a half on the FI/A test and only 35 minutes on the FOI. I plan on using your software for any future ratings or certificates. Thank you.

Should I buy FOI by itself?
If you also need a Flight/Ground Instructor test in the CFI bank, the combined edition is usually the appropriate choice. FOI-only is available when you do not need the other tests in that bank.
Does an education degree exempt me from FOI?
A degree alone is not the stated exemption. Review the specific certificate, teacher-certificate, or accredited-college teaching provisions in the requirements section with your instructor or FAA office.
Do I need an endorsement to take FOI?
The current FAA testing matrix requires initial authorization for FOI. Check the accepted graduation evidence or instructor endorsement before booking; the requirements differ from some other instructor knowledge tests.
Does one purchase cover every platform?
GroundSchool is licensed separately for each platform. A Windows purchase does not include the Mac, iPhone/iPad, or Android app. GroundSchool Audio is also a separate product. Review the purchase terms for the version you choose.
Are content updates included?
