The most important lesson to remember about pre-flight is this: among the safest pilots in the world, as far as pre-flight goes, are otherwise wet-behind-the-ears student pilots who conscientiously use a checklist and do a thorough pre-flight inspection each time. The most dangerous pilots are often, ironically, the most experienced ones (including aircraft owners) who get too comfortable in their routine and so get in the habit of skipping (or doing from memory, which is almost as bad) their pre-flight inspections.
