Great news for those of you who use iPhone and compatible mobile phones. Now, you can log your flights via your iPhone wherever you are. This service is available 100% FREE for active SafelogWeb users - there is no additional charge to access the iPhone-compatible portal.
Here's how it works. SafelogWeb is our online pilot logbook. You can reach it at www.SafelogWeb.com. Use of this online pilot logbook requires a subscription (but don't worry - it's far less expensive and far more powerful than any other similar system).
If you're a SafelogWeb subscriber, you can now also log in using your iPhone's browser at www.SafelogWeb.com/iPhone. This will bring up an iPhone-friendly interface that allows you to log your flights and do other key logbook activities

When will Safelog for iPhone™ be released? |
It's available now! If you are an existing SafelogWeb subscriber, just visit www.SafelogWeb.com/iPhone with your iPhone, log in, and start logging. If you're not yet a SafelogWeb subscriber, please view the screenshots on this page and also SafelogWeb.com. |

Which iPhone™ devices are supported? |
Most or all iPhone™ and compatible devices will be supported. That said, since we can't necessarily test it with every possible iPhone and compatible variant, we can't say 100%, but it works on everything that we've tried so it will probably work with your iPhone too. Additionally, if you have an Android phone (also known as a "Google Phone"), Safelog for iPhone will probably work on your device too, since the systems are very similar. |

Why does use of Safelog for iPhone™ require a SafelogWeb account? |
Safelog for iPhone™is not a piece of software which you install on your iPhone. Rather, it's a portal of sorts - that is, a specifically designed version of SafelogWeb that is designed to display well on iPhone and similar devices. Therefore, you need to be online using your regular iPhone data account (that is, accessing the web) to use Safelog for iPhone. |
| |
What is the price of Safelog for iPhone™? |
Safelog for iPhone™ is free! Or rather, there is no additional charge for using Safelog for iPhone if you already have a SafelogWeb account. We do this even though it took us significant effort and time to develop Safelog for iPhone. We are pricing it at "free" to bring yet more value for SafelogWeb users.

What about bandwidth / data transfer charges and usage? |
You need to be online ("connected to the web") with your iPhone™ to access Safelog for iPhone™. Therefore, you will be charged for this access per your telecommunication provider's rates. Many iPhone™ users in the USA and elsewhere are on a 'fixed rate' plan which gives them "unlimited Internet" access from their devices. If this applies to you, then there is basically no marginal cost for you to access Safelog for iPhone™. Of course, if you are in a roaming area or otherwise pay your telecom provider for specific bandwidth used, this will be charged accordingly by your telecom provider. We do not surcharge this in any way.

I am a Safelog for PC user and want to also log flights on my iPhone™ |
As described above, a SafelogWeb account is required to use Safelog for iPhone™. If you are a Safelog PC software user and you wish to have flights logged on your iPhone™ synchronize with your home PC, you must have a SafelogWeb account
to do this. This is because SafelogWeb acts as an intermediary between your iPhone™ device, which sits on your telecom provider's communications network, and your PC. If you are
not yet a SafelogWeb user, don't worry - it's quick and inexpensive to sign up and begin having access to your logbook via the web (as well as on your PC if you are a SafelogPC user!)

Can I access all SafelogWeb features on my iPhone™? Why not? |
No, you can't - not yet, anyway, though you can do the most important, which is logging flights. Part of the reason that not all features are yet avaiable for iPhone is that we simply haven't yet ported some features to iPhone™ though we plan on steadily adding these over time. If you have specific requests of features that you'd like to see first, please contact us via our helpdesk and let us know about this and we'll do what we can. |

What about my custom fields in Safelog for PC? |
If you are a Safelog for PC user as well as a SafelogWeb user, the fields of Safelog for iPhone™ will configure themselves to your Safelog for PC setup. Almost all of the fields are supported. This means that your logbook on the iPhone™ version will look like your logbook
on your Safelog for PC and/or SafelogWeb account. The systems are all designed to work together nicely. |

What about my aircraft, airports, contacts, and so on? |
These are all synchronized between SafelogWeb and Safelog for iPhone™, so they'll all be there for you. |

Why is Safelog for iPhone™ a portal? Why didn't you just custom make some software for iPhone™? |
Apple has many positive qualities. Unfortunately, openness is not really one of them. As of this writing, Apple has chosen to tightly control access to programming directly for its iPhone™ devices. In theory it would be possible for us to jump through the many (expensive!) hoops that Apple has set up for third party developers such as ourselves to create applications, but as of right now, it's not really worth it. At the end of the day, after a serious technical evaluation and considerable discussion with our users, we determined that since most if not all iPhone users have web access 24/7 on their devices, the creation of a Safelog portal for iPhone users is by far the most reasonable way to do things. Not only does this allow us to offer the iPhone service free to you (otherwise, for example, we'd have to offer this software only through the Apple online iPhone application store) but also eliminates most or all of the hassles that come with installing software. This solution is a win-win.

What happens when I buy a new iPhone™ device? |
Since Safelog for iPhone is really just a portal to SafelogWeb, there's no worry or difficulty here. Just visit www.SafelogWeb.com/iPhone from your new device, log in using your username and password, and you'll be set. |
