Attention SimPlates 2004 owners: Win a flight in a Real Cirrus SR22!

CONTEST!

The Cirrus SR22 aircraft is unique - it's a four-seat general aviation aircraft, but it features advanced instrumentation and avionics that in many ways make it seem more like an airliner.

Regardless of whether you have an existing pilot certificate or if you've never flown before, if you are a SimPlates 2004 owner, you are welcome to participate in this contest in which you will get to fly (along with an experienced instructor pilot, of course!) in this aircraft. This is a rather unique opportunity - generally speaking, it is not possible to rent a Cirrus as nearly all examples of this 310hp "Porche of the Sky" are kept in private hands.

The SR22 has a unique control system consisting of "sidesticks" such as that you might see on an Airbus or F-16. At 310hp, it pretty much goes where you point it. It's an elegant, beautiful airplane with no nasty aerodynamical surprises and the view is great! It has a built in TCAD (similar to TCAS) for traffic avoidance, stormscope, Sandel HSI, twin garmin 430 color gps, and an AvDyne FlightMax integrated flight display (similar to an airline MFD, but prettier!). It's a sweet bird.

Taking you through all this will be Adrian, an experienced Flight / Instrument / Multiengine instructor and the author of SimPlates 2004 (don't worry--adrian doesn't own the airplane! This commercially-insured airplane is owned by one of his ex-students who has agreed to hire it to Adrian for this purpose).

You can have a lesson in this airplane or just sit back enjoy the flight. The itinerary of the flight will be based on your experience, desires, and comfort level and will be made in agreement with Adrian. While this contest is "open" in the sense that all SimPlates 2004 owners may participate, please understand that safety must be the paramount concern and, while no problems are anticipated, Adrian will have the final say on the operation of the flight, including go/no go if it comes to that.

Contest Rules and Entry Form:

1. Only customers of SimPlates 2004 may enter. Don't have a copy yet? Buy one today from our web site or your favorite sim retailer. One entry per person, so in the unlikely case that you have bought more than one copy, you can only enter once. Each entrant must be 18 years of age or older.

2. Each SimPlates 2004 can get up to five "tickets" depending on what they fill out below. On July 11, 2004 (the day of the Duxford Flying Legends World War 2 Air Show), Dauntless Software will electronically pick a winning ticket at random and the person who that ticket belongs to will be contacted. If after a reasonable amount of effort and time that person can not be contacted or that person declines the prise, a replacement winner will be selected as necessary. While we hope to be able to publicize the winner including showing photos of the winner's flight, we will not announce the winner's name / etc without the winner's permission.

3. The winning flight will be conducted out of EGSC Cambridge Airport, UK. The winner will need to provide own transportation to Cambridge, UK--transportation will be provided from Cambridge city centre / train station to Cambridge Airport. Fortunately, Cambridge is not too far from Stansted Airport, a hub for discount air carriers such as Ryanair, Easyjet, and Air-Berlin, making it hopefully a not too expensive journey from many locations in Europe. The flight will occur on a mutually agreed upon day a reasonable time (probably no more than two or three months) after the close of the contest. The flight will occur in VFR (VMC) conditions only. No aerobatic maneuvers will be performed under any circumstances. The flight will include at most one takeoff and one landing. The duration of the flight will be 45 minutes if no IFR approaches are performed, and 35 minutes if an IFR approach (such as the ILS 23) is flown. The winner will receive a complete (1-2 hour) preflight briefing and introduction to the aircraft. Digital photos of the winner's flight can be taken at the winner's request. While we don't anticipate this happening, please understand that the flight can be cancelled at the prize withdrawn at any time if it is felt by the flight instructor that the flight cannot continue safety under existing circumstances. No cash equivalent or other prize is available in lieu of the flight. The winner may not transfer his "win" to any other indidual except if this has been approved by Dauntless Software.

Additional flight time may be purchased by the winner. The Cirrus SR22 usually rents for GBP 170 (US $320) per Hobbs hour + VAT + landing fees + approach fees + instructor fees (total value approximately GBP 250 per hour).

The flight instructor, Adrian, is a US Citizen and the aircraft is N-registered (USA). It is fully insured for commercial operations in the UK.

3. Here's how you can get tickets and enter the contest:

Ticket #2

On the face of SimPlates 2004 CD-ROM #2, there is an IFR approach plate as the background artwork. This is an approach plate to a USA airport. You can get ticket #2 if you can name this airport. This will require your detective skills and/or asking around on the Internet. Please put the FAA airport code for this airport here:

(note: the FAA airport code is the same as the ICAO airport code without the leading "K"--so, if the answer was New York Kennedy Airport (it's not), you would put "JFK" in the box. The ICAO code for Kennedy is KJFK. Yes, this approach plate is included in SimPlates 2004.

Tickets #3 and #4
On the face of SimPlates 2004 CD-ROM #1 there is an IFR approach plate as the background artwork. This time, you win TWO tickets if you can name this European airport correctly, as it's a bit tougher than the first one! (this plate, too, is included in SimPlates 2004). To answer this one, you need to give the four letter code for this airport here:
Ticket #5
