Just
a note - FlightForms 8710-1 is a great program (which you
can read more about and download below), but your Safelog
logbook program also generates laser-quality 8710-1 forms
but is also a complete electronic logbook, so you might
want to consider Safelog instead. Safelog costs only a little
bit more than FlightForms 8710-1 does. Interested? Safelog

FlightForms 8710-1:
You
must bring a completed FAA Form 8710-1 (Airman Certificate and/or
Rating Application) with you for most FAA checkrides. This form
needs to be carefully filled out and signed by both you and your
instructor (when applicable). If the form is filled out neatly
and accurately, it will reflect well on you as an organized pilot
and you will be that much closer to a successful checkride. FlightForms
8710-1 produces "laser quality" filled out 8710-1
forms and stores them for you for easy reference for later checkrides.

a
Sampling of FlightForms 8710-1 Screenshots shows how easy this
program makes it to fill out your application forms. Other screens
(not shown) allow you to store and retrieve past 8710-1s, and,
in the Flight School edition, to organize pilots/applicants
by CFI, Program, etc.

You might
ask--what's the big deal? Checkrides are so infrequent that it really
isn't much of a bother to fill out another 8710-1 form by hand. Well,
yes and no. Consider some of the fields that the 8710-1 requires--for
example, Night Take-off/Landing Pilot in Command. Can you easily extract
this from your logbook? For most of us, the answer is no. While the
FAA encourages us to do our best with such fields, it does require (except
in the case of correcting a mistake on a previously submitted 8710-1
form) consistency--the numbers you submit should be increasing from
form to form. Suprisingly, because of the slightly odd nature of some
of the required fields, this is easy to mess up unless you keep a copy
of each 8710-1 you ever fill out. Furthermore, the 8710-1 form should
be flawless. In some cases, people have been denied admission to checkrides
because of seemingly minor errors on their 8710-1. If you use this program,
it's easy to make professional looking changes quickly.
FlightForms
8710-1 comes in two editions:
| Personal
Edition $20 |
- Perfect for
an individual Pilot - student pilot through ATP
- Produce
professional quality 8710-1 forms from your own computer
- Store
and review past 8710-1 forms. This is important because
you have to be careful to have consistent (or "consistently
increasing") values in the "record of pilot time"
(logbook) fields.
- This
software will store data for one pilot only.
|
| Flight
School Edition $99 |
- For
Flight Schools, FBOs, CFIs, etc. who deal with 8710-1 forms for
multiple pilots.
- Allows
to you store, retrieve, update, and print 8710-1
forms for an unlimited number of students/pilots at your location.
- Furthermore,
you can organize your students/pilots by groups, such as by CFI,
for easy reference for a variety of reasons, including liability
protection.
- Pays
for itself in terms of work and aggravation saved very quickly!
Again, this software is very reasonably priced
- Great
for time-conscious, professional flight training operations.
